The body shell sits on the workshop bench with its metal exposed. The front end, without lights or trim, reveals the shapes of the wings, the bonnet profile and the light openings. Traces of work on the surface record a stage that will no longer be visible once the car is painted.

The project today, in detail.

The ivory colour follows the Pre-A's rounded surfaces. At the front, the Porsche script and chrome bonnet trim sit alongside the headlights with their metal surrounds. At the rear, small circular lights and the reflector define a simple design.

Close-up photographs show the fit of components, seals and surfaces from different perspectives. It is at this scale, as well as in the overall view, that the car's character becomes apparent.

The Pre-A at the origins of Porsche.

The name Pre-A identifies the 356s preceding the A series, introduced in September 1955. A 1953 Cabriolet therefore belongs to the first phase of Porsche production: a period when bodywork and construction details evolved from year to year. Porsche Classic: the 356 A.

In its documentation of the 1953–1955 356 1500 family, Porsche Classic describes the one-piece windscreen with a central bend, bumpers separated from the body and round rear lights. The hood also changed during production: from April 1953, the small glass rear window gave way to a larger plastic one.
